Central Serengeti

Day 3 - Day 4

The Serengeti in Tanzania, together with Kenya’s Masai Mara National Park, form Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary. Acacia trees, endless grass plains, wide open spaces, clear air, starry nights and wildlife. This is the Serengeti.

The eco-system here also provides sweet grass for millions of wildebeest and zebra that move, broadly speaking, in a 365-day slow continous circle between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara, grazing where the food is plentiful.

After the rains of April and May, the grazing is good in the western corridor and central area of the Serengeti, and the wildebeest and zebra move in this direction, generally in May and June. They then follow the scent of sweet grass and move northwards, towards the Masai Mara.

Throughout the rest of the year, large prides of lions, elephant, giraffe, gazelle and eland are resident in the Serengeti, providing a rewarding safari experience.

The central Serengeti. Migrating millions and plenty of permanent residents.
