The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most well-known wildlife area, named in honour of the Maasai people, ancestral inhabitants of the area.

It’s where you can, nature permitting, see the Big Five. In safari speak, this refers to lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.

Traditionally, between July – October, more than a million zebra, wildebeest and Thomson’s gazelle make their way to the sweet grass of the Masai Mara for grazing. This migratory movement is in turn a drawcard for predators, both at river crossings, and in the plains of the Masai Mara.

Game viewing is generally good year round in the Mara, and at it’s best during the migration.

Governors’ Il Moran Camp is situated on banks of the Mara River, in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The camp is part of the well-established Governors portfolio of camps, founded in 1972, that enjoys one of the best locations in a prime game viewing area of the reserve.

Accommodation is provided in spacious walk-in safari tents, each with en-suite bathroom, comfortable sitting area, and private outdoor deck. The camp’s central areas include an elegant dining tent, comfortable lounge and outdoor sunken firepit, creating a relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

With just a small number of tents, Governors’ Il Moran offers a personalised safari experience, excellent guiding and a peaceful setting along the river. It is an ideal choice for a refined yet authentic safari camp in one of the Mara’s most sought-after locations.

Tours & Experiences.

Each day at Governors Il Moran includes traditional game drives with other guests, hosted by dedicated highly qualified and experienced guides with an indepth knowledge of the Masai Mara.

Additional activities available, at an extra cost, are a guided walking safari in a neighbouring conservancy with a professional walking guide, hot air balloon ride, a visit to the Governors responsible tourism projects, and a Masai cultural experience at a local Masai village (manyatta). The fee for the Masai cultural experience is payable directly to the community.

In between the activities, there's time to relax at this unfenced, small intimate camp along the Mara River, in one of the best locations in the Masai Mara.
