On arrival at Maun, you'll be met and transferred to Gray's Eden, to rest, relax and get ready for your safari tomorrow.

This afternoon, you will be notified of the time of the shuttle flight tomorrow from Maun to the Okavango Delta, and what time the lodge will take you to the airport.

The Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s most amazing, sensitive and complex natural environments. Situated in Botswana, which is primarily a desert country, the Okavango Delta fills with water every year from the floodwaters that flow seasonally from the highlands in central Africa, over 1 000km away.

 

So….the water flows from miles away….and the Okavango Delta fills. And with this gift of water, nature supports a wealth of wildlife that thrives in this inland delta. Channels, lagoons, islands, and rich habitat host mammals, birdlife and fish that flourish here.

 

Human visitor numbers are limited, with good reason. This is one of the most pristine wildlife viewing regions in Africa. Let’s not spoil it – it is truly amazing. The Okavango Delta.

Days at Maxa are centred around exploration and enjoying one of the Okavango Delta’s more remote and untouched regions. 

Activities are flexible and guided by the season, with opportunities for mokoro excursions, walking safaris and day and night game drives.  This area of the Okavango Delta has a varied ecosystem and excellent birdlife, offering an immersive and nature-focused safari experience.

Back at camp, the atmosphere is relaxed and understated. The open lounge and dining areas are built around natural materials and shaded spaces, where home-style meals are served, adding to the warm and welcoming feel of the camp.

In between activities, there's time to relax in the shaded sala, relax in the hammock deck over looking the lagoon, or unwind in the peaceful setting of this remote Delta camp.

Shinde Footsteps was rebuilt at the end of 2022, opening officially in May 2023.  It is a delightful camp, on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta in the Shinde Private Concession, small, intimate and provides an excellent safari experience.

The new tents are spacious, well-designed, classic canvas tents, each with en-suite facilities. The main area is beautifully designed, with a dining and lounge area overlooking the lagoon, and a separate photo editing area with desks, chairs and charging ports.

Shinde Footsteps, is in one word, exceptional.

Shinde Footsteps experiences are centred around a classic Okavango Delta safari experience, offering day and night safari drives, walking safaris and mokoro (dug out canoe) rides.  Walking safaris are a highlight here, being a slower and more immersive way to discover the Delta while learning about animal tracks, birdlife, plants and the smaller details often missed from a vehicle.

The area is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, wild dogs, giraffes, zebra and red lechwe, as well as excellent birdlife and special semi-aquatic species such as sitatunga.

In camp, the comfortable lounge and dining areas overlooking a permanent hippo pool, provide a relaxing space in between activities. The camp’s small size and personalised guiding create a quieter, more exclusive safari experience, connecting you closely to nature.
